This page is the standard the rest of the site is held to. It is deliberately specific, because a local guide that recommends businesses and publishes prices is only worth reading if you can see exactly how it decides.
Who publishes this
manotick.co is independently run and privately owned; it is not published by, or on behalf of, any business listed on it. manotick.co is an independent local publication. It is not affiliated with the City of Ottawa, the Manotick BIA, the Manotick Village and Community Association, or any regulator named on this site.
What "Based in Manotick" means here
The badge is a claim about premises, not about marketing. A business earns it only when a current public source shows an operating location in K4M — a storefront, showroom, office, shop or yard — or the business's own public statement that it is based in Manotick, or a documented owner or mobile base in K4M.
None of the following earns the badge on its own: the word "Manotick" in a company name, a Manotick service-area or landing page, a 613-692 phone number, an address in Ottawa, Greely, Kars, Richmond, North Gower, Nepean, Kanata or Kemptville, an old directory address that conflicts with the company's current site, or a mailbox or virtual office.
A business with no verified K4M base but explicit, documented coverage of the area is described as K4M-serving, and its listing says where it actually operates from. These are different claims and the site keeps them apart. Independent is a separate claim again — locally owned rather than a chain or franchise — and so is licence status, which we point you to the registry for rather than asserting ourselves.
The buttons beside a listing
Every listing carries the business's own published phone number and its own website, and both buttons go straight there. manotick.co is not on the call, not in the email, and not a party to anything that follows. Nothing about a call — whether it happened, who answered, what was said — is recorded by this site. No listing shows ratings, response figures or reviews, because none are collected.
How the first call and the alternates are chosen
Selection is a rule applied the same way in every category, not a judgement remade each time: a verified K4M operating base outranks everything; then independence; then the concrete signals we could actually verify — a working website, published credentials such as ESA, WETT, TSSA or WSIB, years in business, and an emergency-availability claim confirmed on the business's own site. Never more than one business per brand, so a single firm cannot occupy the page.
In a few categories the order is set by hand instead, and this is where that is written down. A rule that scores websites and credentials cannot tell which agent actually works this village, or which installer we would send our own family to — so where we have formed that view, the businesses are named in the site's own data file and appear in the order we named them, above whatever the rule would have produced. It is one line of data, it moves businesses up and never removes anyone, it is not payment, and the build refuses to publish a name that is not already a listing in that category. Everything below a hand-set order is still the rule, in rule order.
Payment is not an input. Nothing on the site is paid for: no business has paid to be listed, ranked, or called first, and there is no advertising. A business we have any financial interest in is excluded from the top slot outright and carries an ownership disclosure beside its listing — that rule is enforced by an automated test, not by memory.
We do not force three local names where three do not exist. Several categories around here genuinely have no verifiable K4M specialist, and the honest version of that page says so and lists nearby businesses that document their coverage.
A listing is not an endorsement, not a guarantee of workmanship, and not a continuing confirmation that a licence or insurance is current. Confirm those directly with the business before you hire.
How the price tables work
Every rate table starts as a planning estimate: a range drafted from published figures, official sources and industry rate cards, scoped to this area rather than averaged across Ontario. A table in that state says so in its own header. It has not been confirmed against local quotes, and we do not describe it as if it had.
A table becomes confirmed only when structured verification data exists behind it — the number of K4M-serving providers checked, the number of published sources, the date, and who reviewed it. The badge is generated from those fields. There is no manual switch, so no table can be marked confirmed because someone felt it was probably right.
Confirmed tables carry a review date. When that date passes the table is shown as due for review rather than silently continuing to look current. Ranges describe a typical middle band for a defined scope; tax, permits, access, materials and emergency premiums all move a real quote.
Readers are the other half of this. If you have had work quoted or done around Manotick and a table here is wrong, email hello@manotick.co with the trade, the job and the number. Individual figures are never published and provider names are never attached to a published price.
Sources and corrections
Material or safety-relevant claims are sourced next to the claim. We prefer, in order: the regulator, utility or organiser directly; the business's own official site for its own address, scope and contact details; a recognised professional registry; our own dated firsthand check; and only then a secondary source.
We get things wrong. When we do it is logged publicly on the corrections page with the date and what was wrong. Errors touching safety, a phone number, an address or a closure are fixed as the first thing we do that day; everything else is reviewed within about a week. Send corrections to hello@manotick.co — we do not publish the sender's details.
