Here is the single most valuable thing on this page, up front, because almost no quote will tell you: if your home heats with propane, oil, wood or electricity, Ontario's heat pump rebate pays you $1,250 per ton up to $7,500 — where a natural-gas home gets $500 per ton up to $2,000. That is two and a half times the rate and nearly four times the cap, for the same equipment in the same house. Being off the gas grid, which every estate lot around Manotick treats as a disadvantage, is worth thousands here. The rest of this page covers what furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps actually cost around K4M, and the rural specifics that change a quote.

When to book: Book furnace work in September and AC work in April — the first cold snap and the first heat wave are the two worst weeks of the year to call.

Who is the best HVAC company in Manotick?
Short answer: It depends whether you are replacing a system or your furnace has just quit. For a planned replacement our first call is Furnace Factory Direct, which publishes the most credential evidence of the three. If it is nine at night, NB Comfort answers until 10pm on weekdays at no extra charge and is based in Mahogany. Manotick Heating & Cooling has the shortest drive of all, from a shop in the village core, but incorporated in 2024 and so has the least history.
| Business | Based | Ownership | Availability | What sets them apart |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Furnace Factory Direct | Unit 6, Ottawa | Independent | Business hours | States over 20 years in the Ottawa area, is a Trane Comfort Specialist, and publishes TSSA, HRAI and ESA marks on its own site — the most credential evidence here. |
| NB Comfort Services | Manotick (K4M) | Independent | After-hours, stated on its own site | Manotick-based, in Mahogany. Answers to 10pm weekdays with no extra charge nights and weekends — the closest thing on this page to an after-hours line, and it does not claim to be 24/7. |
| Manotick Heating & Cooling | Manotick (K4M) | Independent | Business hours | A shop in the village core, so the shortest travel of the three. Incorporated 2024, so also the least track record. |
A comparison of the three businesses this site would call first, on facts each publishes about itself — not a ranking of every HVAC company serving K4M, and not a rating. "What sets them apart" is our opinion, formed from the criteria we publish. No business has paid for a place in this table, and payment would not change it. Confirm licence and insurance directly before you hire.

The rebate, and the two mistakes that cost the most
The Home Renovation Savings Program pays on rated heating capacity at 8.3 °C. A 3-ton system earns about $3,750; you need roughly 6 tons to reach the $7,500 cap, so most Manotick homes land somewhere between $3,750 and $6,250 rather than the headline number. Unlike the insulation and windows stream, the heat pump rebate needs no energy assessment and no second upgrade — heat pump alone qualifies. The equipment has to be on NRCan's cold-climate list and installed by a contractor on the programme's participating list.
Mistake one: renting. Rented equipment drops you to $500 per ton, capped at $2,000 — the same tier as a gas home. Same house, same heat pump, roughly $5,500 of difference, decided by whether you own or rent the box. Rental offers are marketed hard in this area.
Mistake two: budgeting on dead federal programs. The Canada Greener Homes Grant closed in February 2024, the interest-free Greener Homes Loan is fully committed and closed, and the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability programme closed to new applicants on 31 July 2026. We found live 2026 pages from Ottawa contractors still advertising a $5,000 grant and a $40,000 loan as though they were stackable. A homeowner planning around those is short by five figures. The Ontario programme has no published end date but is funded through the IESO's 2025–2027 plan period — confirm it is still open before you sign.
Propane, oil, and why the two are treated very differently
For a propane home the rules are unusually generous: you may keep an existing propane furnace, or install a new one, as backup and still collect the full $1,250-per-ton tier. That makes dual fuel the natural Manotick configuration — the heat pump carries roughly 80–90% of the season, the propane furnace takes the cold snaps, and you keep heat when the power is out and the generator is running a limited load.
For an oil home the programme is stricter. You must actually transition off oil, and work with a TSSA-registered contractor to maintain, empty or remove the tank; only the heating-emphasis sizing options qualify, and electric resistance backup is allowed but not rebated. That is more work — but oil is the most expensive common fuel to run, and the conversion economics are usually the strongest on the street.
Does a heat pump actually work here? Yes, with an honest caveat
Ottawa's Building Code design temperature (OBC SB-1, January 2.5 per cent) is −25 °C, and local contractors often design colder still for margin. A cold-climate heat pump keeps running well below that — Natural Resources Canada's own long-term test house, in Ottawa, kept a unit operating below −21 °C at a coefficient of performance around 1.5, still better than electric resistance. But capacity falls as it gets colder, which is why every Ottawa installation needs backup heat. The number to ask your installer for is the balance point: the outdoor temperature at which your home's heat loss exceeds what the unit can deliver. Below it, the backup carries the house. Anyone quoting a heat pump for an estate home here with no backup plan is quoting wrong, and anyone promising it will never need the furnace is overselling.
Permits, and what a real quote includes
Good news on paperwork: the City of Ottawa's own list of work that does not require a building permit explicitly includes installation of air conditioning units or heat pumps. Furnace replacement is not addressed either way and is treated as exempt in practice — but new ductwork through framed walls, or venting through a new exterior-wall location, does trigger one. Propane and oil appliance work is TSSA-regulated and must be done by a certified technician. And because heat pump conversions often need a new circuit or a 200-amp panel, expect an ESA notification and a licensed electrician on the job — see the electricians page.
Three questions that sort a real quote from a brochure: what is the balance point for this specific model on my house, is the rebate quoted at the owned rate or the rental rate, and does the price include the electrical work? The third is where five-figure quotes quietly diverge.

Common questions
Who is the best HVAC company in Manotick?
It depends whether you are replacing a system or your furnace has just quit.
How much does a new furnace cost in Manotick?
In 2026, a high-efficiency natural gas furnace runs about $5,000 to $7,500 installed. A propane furnace runs $5,000 to $8,500 — the same cabinet plus an LP conversion kit, orifices and a regulator run from the tank. An oil furnace is $4,000 to $6,500. Rural addresses carry a travel component that in-town quotes don't.
What is the heat pump rebate in Ontario in 2026?
The Home Renovation Savings Program pays $1,250 per ton up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air-source heat pump if your home currently heats with oil, propane, wood or electricity — and only $500 per ton up to $2,000 if you are a natural gas customer or if you rent the equipment. No energy assessment is required and no second upgrade is needed. The equipment must be on NRCan's cold-climate list and installed by a participating contractor.
Why do propane homes get a bigger heat pump rebate than gas homes?
Because the programme is designed to move homes off unregulated fuels. Ontario's conservation plan explicitly extends the same incentives to homes heated by oil or propane that electrically heated homes receive. For Manotick's estate lots, being off the gas main is worth roughly $5,500 more in rebate on the same installation.
Does a heat pump work in Ottawa winters?
Yes, a cold-climate model runs all winter, but it loses capacity as the temperature drops and every Ottawa installation needs backup heat. Ottawa's Building Code design temperature is −25 °C. Ask your installer for the balance point — the outdoor temperature below which the backup takes over. On a propane home, keeping the furnace as dual-fuel backup is both the best-performing setup and fully eligible for the top rebate tier.
Do I need a permit to replace a furnace or add a heat pump in Ottawa?
The City of Ottawa lists installation of air conditioning units and heat pumps as work that does not require a building permit. Furnace replacement is not addressed either way and is treated as exempt in practice. New ductwork through framed walls or venting through a new exterior wall location does require one. Propane and oil work is TSSA-regulated regardless.
Is it worth converting from oil to a heat pump?
Usually, on running cost — oil is the most expensive common fuel here. Budget $13,000 to $22,000 before rebates for a full conversion including tank decommissioning, the heat pump, and any panel upgrade, then subtract up to $7,500 in Ontario rebate. Note the federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability programme closed to new applicants on 31 July 2026, so the Ontario programme is what remains.
What does a furnace service call cost in Manotick?
Typically $99 to $180 for the diagnostic, and most Ottawa companies credit it against the repair if you proceed rather than waiving it outright. After-hours and emergency call-outs run $200 to $350, roughly one and a half to two times the daytime rate. Annual maintenance is $130 to $220.
