Gyms, studios and classes in Manotick

For a village of this size Manotick is unusually well served for fitness — four gyms, a reformer Pilates studio, two martial arts schools and two long-established dance studios, nearly all of them with premises inside K4M. What it does not have is a pool, so swim lessons mean driving. Almost everything here is membership or session-based rather than drop-in, and the kids' programmes fill early.

Gyms

The Fitness Lab at 5536 Ann Street (613-692-9000) is the village's main gym and part of a locally-owned four-site Ottawa group, not a national franchise. It runs Metcon, strength, mobility, personal training and athletic group training with open gym access, and advertises a two-week trial. Anytime Fitness Manotick at 1160 Beaverwood Road, Units 4–5 (613-491-1290) is the one international franchise, on the key-fob model. Body and Mind Athletics at 5517 Manotick Main Street, Unit 3 (613-491-9100), owned by Brett Mercanti, runs group classes, personal training, open gym and a youth summer programme. JamFit Energy Studio is at 1160 Beaverwood Road, Unit 8 (613-692-2346).

Pilates and yoga

Sōma Pilates at 1140 Tighe Street, Unit 201 (613-451-7662) is the only Pilates studio with premises in Manotick — reformer work, private and group private sessions and group classes, sold as packages and memberships. It is part of a small local group with studios in Kanata and Orléans as well.

Yoga is the gap. We could not confirm a yoga studio currently trading in the village; the nearest confirmed options are in Nepean and Barrhaven, and The Fitness Lab's mobility class is the closest thing available at a K4M address. If you run one here, tell us and it goes on the page.

Martial arts

Two schools, and they teach different things. 6 Tigers Academy (613-324-1261) teaches Karate, personal safety and Modern Arnis, with an all-inclusive membership and a free first month. Its age streams are unusually well defined: Tiny Tigers 3–5, Kids Karate 6–11, Youth and Adult Karate 12+, Modern Arnis 10+, after-school sports from 4, and a Special Needs Karate programme built for differently abled children, youth and adults. Founder Janet Lawless has more than twenty years' experience and international coaching credentials, and instructors are NCCP qualified coaches.

Manotick Martial Arts at 1165 Beaverwood Road (613-327-1077) teaches Jujitsu, with Little Champions from age 4 to 6, a White Gi programme for kids from 6, a women's programme and summer camps. Both are membership-based rather than drop-in.

Dance

Denise Smith School of Dance at 1140 Tighe Street (613-692-4653) has been running since 1979 and teaches ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop and acrobatic gymnastics, from Tiny Stars at 2½ through a recreational programme for 6 to 18 and on to adult, with both part-time and full-time competitive streams. Piqué Dance Studio on Longshadow Street (613-692-0520) takes dancers from age 3, split into 3–6 and 7+ streams, and pitches itself from beginner through to professional training. Both run on seasonal registration rather than drop-in, so the time to enquire is late summer.

The arena, and what the City runs

The Manotick Community Centre and Mike O'Neil Arena at 5572 Doctor Leach Drive is City-operated and is the hub of organised activity in the village — it is also the registered address of the nursery school, the tennis club and both minor hockey associations. City drop-in programmes there include public skating (Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday), family skating (Tuesday and Saturday), skating for adults 50+ (Wednesday) and 18+ hockey (Wednesday). The building has an ice pad, a gymnasium, basketball, a hall, gender-neutral change rooms and an adjacent park. The City does not publish opening hours on its facility page — email before you drive over.

There is no City pool in Manotick. Swim lessons and lane swimming mean Barrhaven, Riverside South or further.

Common questions

Body and Mind Athletics at 5517 Manotick Main Street, 613-491-9100, and JamFit Energy Studio at 1160 Beaverwood Road, 613-692-2346, are the two independents.

Is there a Pilates studio in Manotick?
