Family medicine in Manotick

Four practices operate in the village, and the differences between them matter more than the addresses. The Manotick Medical Centre at 5230 Mitch Owens Road is the largest — a family health organization group practice, and it states plainly on its own site that it is not a walk-in clinic. Potter's Medical Centre at 1160 Beaverwood Road in Manotick Mews is a smaller family practice and, notably, the one village practice that advertises walk-in appointments alongside routine ones — if you are trying to be seen without being rostered, start there. Kingsway Health Centre at 5542 Ann Street is a further family practice, easily missed because it sits above the village core rather than in a plaza. And the clinic at 1160 Beaverwood Road Unit 2, long known as CareMedics, is now IDEAL Wellness Centre – Manotick — it offers same-day urgent appointments for its own rostered patients, not public walk-in, and the old name still circulates widely. Walk-in care: the honest version

There is no large, dependable, drop-in-any-time walk-in clinic in Manotick of the kind you would find in Barrhaven. Within the village, Potter's Medical Centre is the practice that advertises walk-in service, and a clinic inside Manotick Place Pharmacy on Main Street also posts walk-in hours, though availability there has been intermittent. Call before you drive over — that advice applies to every option on this page. If you need reliable same-day coverage, the realistic answers are in Barrhaven: Barrhaven Medical Centre, 2900 Woodroffe Avenue Unit 10 (613-440-3600), runs limited walk-in clinics, and the Tartan Medical group at Unit 4, 1 Tartan Drive (613-825-3007) offers weekday walk-in subject to availability. Both change their hours often — phone first or check Medimap the morning you plan to go, rather than trusting any published schedule including this one. Two things worth knowing before you drive somewhere out of date: Strandherd Medical Clinic stopped accepting walk-ins in August 2023, and the urgent care that once operated at 1221 Greenbank Road appears to have gone — that address is now a family health centre whose Saturday morning clinic is for its own registered patients only.

Hearing

Two options in the village. Hearing Freedom at 5528 Ann Street — also trading in French as Clinique de Solutions Auditives — is an owner-operated audiology practice run by Dr. Rosanne Lavallée-McNamee, a doctor of audiology, working in English and French. HearingLife at 1140 Tighe Street is part of a national hearing-care group. The distinction worth asking about at either is whether you are booking a full diagnostic assessment by an audiologist or a free screening offered alongside a product — they are different things, and the answer decides what the appointment is actually for.

Specialists who actually come to Manotick

This is the part almost nobody knows, and it is not listed anywhere as a set. Two specialist clinics run out of Manotick Place on Main Street, so you do not have to drive into the city for either. Prestige Dermatology runs on Thursdays with Dr. Feras Al-Ghazawi, and a psychiatry clinic runs with Dr. Moustafa Eid. Both need a referral from your family doctor rather than a self-booking — ask your GP to fax it, and the clinic will contact you. Given that the usual alternative is a downtown appointment with a months-long wait, a village dermatology slot is worth knowing about before you need it.

Pharmacies — five in the village

For a village this size Manotick is unusually well served for pharmacy, with five full pharmacies inside K4M. Most offer flu shots and minor-ailment prescribing under the expanded Ontario pharmacist scope, which for a sore throat or a UTI can save you the trip to Barrhaven entirely.

Dental, eyes, hearing, feet and animals

Four dental practices, two optometrists, two audiology clinics and two veterinary hospitals — again, a deeper bench than the population would suggest. One naming note that confuses map searches: the optometry practice at 1128 Clapp Lane is now Mill Centre Optometry, though map data still often labels it under the former partners' names.

Physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage and mental health

Nine clinics operate in and immediately around the village core, most of them walkable from Main Street. Several are multidisciplinary — physiotherapy, massage, chiropractic and psychotherapy under one roof — which is usually the fastest route to being seen for something musculoskeletal without leaving the village.

Mental health: three different professions, and how to tell them apart

This is the part of health care where the job titles do the most damage, because in Ontario "counsellor", "therapist" and "life coach" are not protected titles — anyone can use them. Three designations are regulated, and each has a free public register you can search in under a minute.

Psychologist (C.Psych.) — regulated by the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. Psychologists are the ones who conduct formal psychoeducational, gifted and developmental assessments; that is the practical difference. Registered Psychotherapist (RP) — regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Note that RP (Qualifying) is a genuine registration category for practitioners completing their independent-practice requirements: registered and accountable, not yet fully independent. Registered Social Worker (RSW) — regulated by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

Why it matters practically: extended health plans name the designations they cover, and coverage for RP is not universal even where psychologist coverage exists. Check the plan booklet before the first session, not after the fourth.

Free and publicly funded mental health options

Private psychology and psychotherapy are paid out of pocket or through a benefits plan. These are the routes that are not.

Ontario Structured Psychotherapy is publicly funded and free, for adults 18 and over with symptoms of depression or anxiety-related disorders. It ranges from self-led resources and phone coaching up to individual and group therapy, in person or virtual. Referral is through your doctor or health team, or by self-referral through the regional network — the East Region lead is The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. It is explicitly not suitable for everyone, particularly people with complex needs.
